Following the successful tsunami of the Melbourne Rebetiko Festival, local rebetiko musicians Wayne Simmons and Con Kalamaras identified the need to provide opportunities for local musicians to unite in a supportive, nurturing environment to play and appreciate live rebetika. The Rebetiko Jam musicians were invited to be interviewed and perform a couple of songs on nation TV in Greece. Here is the link to watch the performance. More than 10,000 people tuned in to the Rebetiko concert, which was streamed live on Facebook, where they were treated to songs from the pre and post-war rebetika era.
